Alisa Adams is a life long dancer. Originally trained in ballet and modern dance, she began studying Argentine Tango in 1992, and teaching in 1997. Adams teaches students to lead and follow one another and puts an emphasis on posture and balance to help them realize their Argentine Tango goals. She has traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina for intensive study and has collaborated on and performed original tango choreography, participated in tango documentaries, and provided tango instruction for many individuals and corporations in Sonoma and nearby counties.
Alejandro Oyuela is a native of Buenos Aires Argentina. Classically trained in music composition, he shares his knowledge and love of tango through music, translation of lyrics, and dance. Among his credits is original incidental music for the Buenos Aires premiere of Elephant Man, and collaborations with Mexican choreographer José Navarrete, Chelsea Eng, and San Francisco tango band Tango No. 9. His original tango compositions have been performed at Theatre Artaud, Laney College and Stanford University, and recorded by Tango No. 9 on their recent CD release Radio Valencia. When he's not composing, Alejandro enjoys teaching tango with his wife and partner Alisa.
Alisa and Alejandro have performed and organized wine country tango performances and concerts including the annual Totally Tango concert and dance series in the City of Sonoma, performance events for the Sonoma Valley Harvest Wine Auction, the Sonoma Film Festival, and the Napa Valley Wine Auction. Their classes focus on the elegant, social salon-style tango. They currently teach group and private lessons, planning to bring more live music milongas (tango dances) to Sonoma County.
